<Poem>

<Translation>
The clouds open up; far off we see
the Hanyang city walls –
We still have another day to travel
in our solitary boat.
The travelling merchants sleep by day,
knowing the waters are calm;
During the night the boatmen talk,
aware of the rising tide.
With my cheerless grey hair I’ll come to the autumn
hues on the river Xiang;
My homeward thoughts go thousands of miles
as I face the bright moon.
My old estate has gone to ruin
during the fighting and war –
Unbearable, the noise of the drums
of the soldiers on the river.
